every post shouldn’t begin with how much time has passed since the last post. but life is busy and chaotic. the past week or so has seen me make the final mixes for my upcoming EP called Ash. Ash is the third of three EPs following Eev and Aer. i began the writing of each of the 4 songs with noise and tried to make noise a dominant voice in the works. i think it’s still fairly gentle although those who have heard the mixes say it sounds quite dark.
the first single, called “Looming Brittle” will be out on august 30th with the EP release on october 11.
the cover art is finished, and i quite like it. it consists of 4 photographic layers, all 4 Polaroids, actually, with the primary image being a picture i took nearby my house.
in between making the final mixes for Ash i kept up the sonic experiments… a variety… searching, i suppose.
more work here with ultra-clean harmonic resynthesis. i definitely like these sounds. certainly not unexplored territory but for me, lately anyway, working with such clean and pure tones seems exciting. free of the noise. for now anyway.
i will often spend the week concentrating on one piece of gear that perhaps i hadn’t used in a while. for a few days i was recording piano into the Chase Bliss Mood MKII pedal. i have a half dozen loops and noodles. potentially some useful things. i do like the Mood II, moreso than the MKI which just used too small a sample buffer for my needs.
and lastly, my 2nd attempt with the SDKC Instruments Helical eurorack module. quite a mysterious one from a company that doesn’t even seem to have a website or much info online. but i am very interested in these generative-type of modules and there’s quite a bit inside this one to explore.
for the past 2 weeks or so i’ve been visited, almost daily, by the same male deer who ambles around outside the studio eating various plants. he doesn’t seem to be scared of me anymore and i like when he stops by. i never have my phone in the studio but i did happen to one day and got a quick picture.
i’ve watched his antlers grow over the weeks. they’re now probably over 6 or 8” long.
and i’ll leave with a photo of the first step i take from the house to studio. we need to take those first steps, wherever they lead you and however hard they may be.
thank you for listening.

Totally love these sounds, all of them. If you listen close, there's just so much going on - deceptive that way (when otherwise so seemingly "quiet").
All wonderful sounds, the piano into the Chase Bliss Mood was especially tranquil.
